Antibody formation in rabbits adapted and nonadapted to high altitude.

چکیده
Antibody formation in high-altitude-acclimatized and nonacclimatized rabbits was investigated at altitudes of 14,100 (Pikes Peak, Colo.) and 5,330 (Denver, Colo.). Serum pools representing samplings of primary response were titered before and after treatment with 2-mercaptoethanol. Peak titers of 2-mercaptoethanolresistant and -sensitive humoral antibodies were higher in the animals adapted to an altitude of 14,100 ft and in nonadapted animals than in animals maintained at 5,330 ft.

Cycloheximide efflux in antibiotic-adapted cells of the fungus Mucor racemosus.
Mucor racemosus cells adapted to either cycloheximide or trichodermin were approximately 40-fold more resistant to cycloheximide than nonadapted cells. Ribosomes isolated from adapted and nonadapted cells were equally sensitive to cycloheximide in an in vitro poly(U) translation assay. There was no detectable modification of cycloheximide by adapted cells. Uptake of drug by nonadapted and adapt...
متن کاملبررسی اثر ایمونیزاسیون با دو آنتیژن مختلف بر علیه LDL اکسید بر ایجاد و توسعه آترواسکلروز در خرگوش
Background: Several studies were pointed to oxidized LDL (OX-LDL) as one of the main immunogenic agents which have important roles in primary lesions of atherosclerosis. In this study, via immunization against OX-LDL with two different antigens in an animal model (rabbit) we tried to clear relation between immune system and atherosclerosis. Methods: LDL was isolated from healthy human plasma an...
متن کاملExperimentally-Induced Metabolic Acidosis Does not Alter Aortic Fatty Streak Formation in High-Cholesterol Fed Rabbits
Objective(s)Cardiovascular disease causes a major clinical problem in patients with end stage renal disease. Since metabolic acidosis is very common in patients with end stage renal disease, we aimed to investigate the effect of experimentally-induced metabolic acidosis on serum lipid profile and aortic fatty streak (FS) formation in normal and high-cholesterol fed rabbits.Materials and Methods...
متن کاملAcid adaptation sensitizes Salmonella typhimurium to hypochlorous acid.
Acid adaptation of Salmonella typhimurium at a pH of 5.0 to 5.8 for one to two cell doublings resulted in marked sensitization of the pathogen to halogen-based sanitizers including chlorine (hypochlorous acid) and iodine. Acid-adapted S. typhimurium was more resistant to an anionic acid sanitizer than was its nonadapted counterpart. A nonselective plating medium of tryptose phosphate agar plus ...
متن کاملNonhost resistance in Arabidopsis-Colletotrichum interactions acts at the cell periphery and requires actin filament function.
Pathogenesis of nonadapted fungal pathogens is often terminated coincident with their attempted penetration into epidermal cells of nonhost plants. The genus Colletotrichum represents an economically important group of fungal plant pathogens that are amenable to molecular genetic analysis. Here, we investigated interactions between Arabidopsis and Colletotrichum to gain insights in plant and pa...
